"Fusion" 2005
This meticulous sculpture is in part an homage to the wonder works of anatomist Friedrich Ruysch, the Alchemist Gber (Jabir) as well as the grand collections found in the old European “Kunstkammer” and “Wunderkammer” (cabinets of curiosities) centuries ago.
Brass, Steel, Wood, Leather, resins, fabrics, Gears and Cams make up this crank driven piece. The movement of the twins is an expressive “Danse Macabre”, each vertebrae is articulated with concealed flexible steel coil threaded through the tiny head, which also moves side to side and dips forward as the mouth snaps open and shut.
